THIS IS PRETTY SWEET

So, this is pretty sweet! I just stumbled across this image on the web- it's from a recent Matt & Kim show at Stubbs in Austin, Texas. The image on the ceiling is a graphic I designed for Matt & Kim way back when they were just getting started- so proud of those kids!

dj matt brown - lifetime [lp]

I've wanted to post this album to our blog for a long time. This is a full-length, dj-mixed album of various original electronic, trance, tribal and breakbeat tracks I've written over the past few years, from 2000 onward. One of the tracks on my album, phatic, was played by Paul Oakenfold in those "Dance Department" and "Kiss" techno mixes on UK radio, about 10 times total, from 2003 to 2004. I was elated! I had finally written a song that was spun by the grandfather of electronic music--Paul Oakenfold.

Cover art is included in the download.

TODAY IS A BIG DAY

Here's a little piece I did for the New York Times letters section a couple weeks back, on the heels of the VP debate. It seemed like an appropriate day to post it here. No excuses, get out to the polls!

You can see it in context here.

LASAGNA

A few months ago, my friends Gary and Jacqueline asked me to do a drawing of Garfield from memory. As it turns out, I wasn't the only one. See all the results of "Garfield from Memory" at their wonderful page of inspiration, CHUNK.

My Thoughts On Music (and a classical piece for you)

Music is the most important thing in the world. It was all I knew for so long. I can remember music as being my earliest of all memories. To be honest, Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

My inspirations for music were always people; my inspirations were never soaring heights, life-altering experiences, or dramatic moments. They were simple exchanges and interactions between humans, which ultimately lead to moments of clarity for myself. This is where I learned the most. I found these times to be the most important. At one point in my life, I tried to write a song about everyone I knew at that time. I figured that something interesting would come out of it, and that if no one ever knew, it wouldn't affect anyone.

Below is a piece of classical music I wrote quite a few years ago for someone special in my life. It is also based on a piece by Samuel Barber. I hope you enjoy it.
